A NEW discount superstore has opened in Whitley, creating 82 new jobs from a £1 million investment.
Brunel Retail Park, off Rose Kiln Lane, is the venue for the new Home Bargains store – the second in the town and next to a newly opened branch of B&M.
It opened on Saturday, and complements the existing Reading store in Reading Link Retail Park. Facilities include a garden centre, cafe and a bakery.
Jamil Basith, the new store manager, said: “The opening is an inspiring milestone that brings together opportunity and community spirit.
“As the second location in this vibrant community, we’ve created over 80 job opportunities, igniting pride and progress among our fellow residents.
“This store goes beyond mere bricks and shelves; it symbolises a place where dreams can flourish.”
As part of its opening celebrations, it made a £2,000 donation to Reading Association for the Blind.
Rebecca Van Der Kamp, operations manager at The Reading Association for the Blind, was delighted.
“I would like to thank everyone at Home Bargains for the support and very generous donation of £2,000,” she said.
“We are very thankful the company has chosen our cause to support and I hope the team at Home Bargains will be pleased to hear that the money will be put to great use supporting and empowering those living with the effects of sight loss in Reading.
“The Reading Association for the Blind is very proud to continue, caring and supporting our members who are living with the debilitating effects of sight loss and it is with great thanks to the generosity of our donors that we can continue to support all those who need our services.”
