Reading FC fans wer left angered by a decision from the referee as they were narrowly defeated by Premier League Brentford.
Despite the gap in the football league between the teams, Reading put up a valiant fight against their top flight opposition.
A nightmare start saw Reading fall behind after just two minutes when experienced striker Callum Wilson capitalised.
Reading thought they had equalised through Paudie O’Connor with a spectacular overhead kick, but that was ruled out as the referee deemed it dangerous play for his boot to be that high.
Many fans were left bemused by the decision.
One fan said: “Can’t be mad at that performance. That ref was one of the worst we’ve had and that’s saying something. An absolute robbery, ref should be embarassed.”
Another added: “Terrible decision, Brentford player never even went for the ball, bottled it.”
Another supporter said: “Even the commentators can’t work out why (it was disallowed) after watching the replay – ridiculous.”
A Reading fan added: “Ridiculous. If there is a head there going for the ball and in danger fine. But there wasn’t Not one Brentford player appealed.”
One more said: “Fuming with that looked fine and a great goal ref didn’t want to give it to us simple as that.”
Reading went two goals down but O’Connor did eventually get on the scoresheet to get the hosts back into the game.
But the Bees managed to hold on to their lead to progress to the next round.
