PLANS which would see major works to transform the area around the Select Car Leasing Stadium are set to be green-lit later today.
The project which would see hundreds of apartments, an ice rink, a convention centre, and a 246-room hotel, was given planning permission in 2017
However the plans, known as the Royal Elm Park project, must be approved by councillors when they meet to come to a decision today.
Among the considerations are the safety of the project, particularly in ensuring that land that could be contaminated by gas and waste is made safe.
It comes after the Reading FC Property Company was given approval for changes to be made to contaminated land conditions, enabling the first phase of the project to get underway.
This included the construction of a multi-storey car park.
The company also applied to change the wording of contaminated land conditions to enable further work to go ahead.
These would mean that land management and remedial works must be undertaken until the council is satisfied that waste and gases are unlikely to be a hazard, and assessed to British standards.
Plans would also see the company pay towards the cost of te monitoring.
A decision is expected later today.
