A BERKSHIRE charity will be marking MS Awareness Week next week and spreading the word about the support it offers for people with MS (Multiple Sclerosis).
MS Awareness Week runs from Monday to Sunday, April 20 to 26, when local and national MS charities come together to raise awareness of the condition and available support.
Located in Reading, Berkshire MS Therapy Centre offers specialised therapies including oxygen therapy and physiotherapy, as well as a social space for individuals living with MS throughout Berkshire and its surrounding areas.
Although there is currently no cure for MS, the therapies provided at the Centre significantly enhance the quality of life for those affected.
Centre member Natasha said that coming to Berkshire MS Therapy Centre has made a huge difference to her life.
“I’m so glad to have found the centre – it has given me hope for the future,” she said.
The centre will hold an information stall at the Royal Berkshire Hospital on Tuesday, April 21, and a bingo event at the centre on Wednesday,April 22.
Collectors will also be carrying out a bucket collection to raise funds at Reading Station on Friday, April 24.
Claire Frew, marketing and engagement officer at Berkshire MS Therapy Centre said: “MS Awareness Week is a great chance for us to draw attention to this condition, which affects over 150,000 people across the UK.
“The theme for this year’s MS Awareness Week is misconceptions about MS.
“We will be sharing stories from our members on our social media and website throughout the week.
The team hopes to reach more people with MS in the local area and their families, and to raise awareness of its need for continued financial support; and the fact that it costs over £700,000 a year to keep the Berkshire MS Therapy Centre running.
