Reading FC could benefit from Femi Azeez's proposed transfer to the Premier League

Former Reading FC winger Femi Azeez could be on course for a move to the Premier League before the summer transfer window closes.

Azeez, who spent five years with the Royals, is attracting renewed interest after an impressive campaign with Millwall, with newly promoted Hull City reportedly leading the race for his signature.

The 25-year-old joined Millwall from Reading in August 2024 for a substantial undisclosed fee, ending his time at the Select Car Leasing Stadium after making 89 appearances and scoring 11 goals for the club.

Azeez has since established himself as one of the Championship’s standout attacking players.

He scored 11 goals and provided seven assists during the 2025/26 campaign as Millwall reached the Championship play-offs, while his performances attracted attention from Premier League clubs.

Sky Sports previously identified Azeez among five Championship players attracting interest from top-flight clubs ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

With the new Premier League season now approaching, Hull City had emerged as the strongest reported suitors.

The Tigers secured promotion to the Premier League last season and are reportedly keen to add Azeez to their squad.

It has been reported that Hull were in pole position for the winger, although Millwall are understood to have rejected a significant offer and are reluctant to sell him cheaply.

Other Premier League clubs have previously been linked with Azeez, including Aston Villa, Bournemouth and Brighton.

Millwall are believed to be looking for a substantial fee for the player, with reports putting their valuation anywhere from £15m to £20m.

The exact figure remains unclear, but Millwall’s position means a move would represent a significant profit on the fee they paid Reading.

Azeez has two years remaining on his Millwall contract, having signed a long-term deal when he moved from Reading.

The Premier League transfer window remains open until 23:00 BST on Tuesday, 1 September, giving Hull and any other interested clubs time to reach an agreement.

Reading could benefit

Any move would also be of interest to Reading supporters because the Royals are understood to have retained a sell-on clause when Azeez left the club.

It is believed that Reading have a “significant sell-on percentage” in the player’s Millwall transfer which could provide a welcome boost to the Royals.

Reading developed Azeez after he joined the club from non-league football in 2019. He progressed through the academy before making his first-team debut and becoming an important player during the 2023/24 season.

His final season at Reading saw him score eight League One goals as the Royals finished comfortably clear of relegation.

From Reading academy to Premier League target

Azeez’s potential move would represent another significant step in a career which began away from the professional game.

He started out at Northwood before spells with Wealdstone and Hanwell Town, joining Reading in 2019.

After breaking into the Royals’ first team, he became a regular and attracted the attention of Championship clubs.

Millwall eventually secured his services in 2024, and Azeez has since taken his game to another level.

His performances in the 2025/26 season helped establish him as a genuine Championship star and earned him reported interest from several Premier League sides.

For Reading, a potential Premier League move would provide a reminder of the value of the academy player they helped develop — and could potentially bring another significant transfer payment into the club.

For Azeez, meanwhile, the next few weeks could determine whether his rise from non-league football, through Reading and into the Championship culminates in a first opportunity to play in the Premier League.
