Reading FC have been dealt an injury blow prior to the start of the 2026/27 season which begins this weekend.
The Royals kick off their season with an away trip to Bromley in the EFL Cup on Saturday before they host Jack Wilshere’s Luton Town on the opening day of the new League One season the following weekend.
However, Leam Richardson will be without another striking option after it was confirmed that talented young forward Sean Patton will miss several months with a metatarsal fracture.
The Royals boss confirmed that he is expected to miss at least three months of action with a foot injury.
Patton had featured in pre-season tests against Farnborough, Getafe and Woking before he sustained the injury which will now see him miss a large chunk of competitive games.
Many Reading fans are hoping that the club will dip into the transfer market in the final few weeks of the window to bolster their attacking options.
The Royals have recurited forward Jacob Brown on a free transfer this summer, while Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan left the club to join AC Horsens.
Reading’s top scorer from last season, Jack Marriott, is also currently out injured, but Richardson has hinted that he will be in contention to face Luton on the opening day on Saturday, August 15.
