A MAN has been jailed for domestic abuse in Reading after subjecting a former partner to “repeated violence and coercion” for more than two years.

Michel Yanni, aged 47 and from Reading, was sentenced to three years and two months in prison at a hearing Reading Crown Court on Friday, January 30.

Yanni pleaded guilty to a count of Controlling and Coercive Behaviour and a further count of intentional strangulation.

He made the plea on what would have been the first day of his trial, also at Reading Crown Court, in November last year.

The sentence comes after Yanni subjected his former partner, a woman in her forties, to repeated violence and control for more than two years.

An incident in August 2023 saw Yanni punching the victim in the face at their shared home in Reading, preventing her from calling the police by grabbing her phone.

He then placed his hand around the victim’s neck and applied pressure to prevent her from breathing.

The victim suffered multiple black eyes, scars, severe bruising, and even a broken finger as a result.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Hannah Tomaselli, of the Berkshire West Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit, said: “Michel Yanni subjected the victim to repeated coercive control and violence for over two years, which have left her with lasting injuries.

“The victim has shown incredible resilience and bravery in providing evidence and supporting a prosecution, leading to Yanni admitting his offences and being Jailed.

“We will always listen to victims of domestic abuse and seek to bring offenders like Yanni to justice.”
