A young martial artist from Wokingham has qualified for the WTKA World Games in Thailand after winning an intercontinental title.
Alex Pickup, who trains at STMA HQ Wokingham, claimed the Sandee WTKA Intercontinental Open Championship at a competition in Barnsley.
He won two bouts against experienced opponents, including one by stoppage, to secure the title and earn his place at the WTKA World Games, which are due to take place in Thailand in 2027.
Coaches at the club praised Alex’s performances, describing him as a dedicated athlete who consistently demonstrates skill, composure and determination both in training and competition.
The event featured junior fighters from across the country, with organisers saying it provided an opportunity for young athletes to gain experience and compete at a high level.
STMA HQ Wokingham said Alex has built up an impressive collection of championship belts through years of commitment to the sport and is a role model for younger members of the club, regularly helping with junior classes.
The club is now launching a fundraising campaign to help cover the costs of Alex’s journey to Thailand, including travel, accommodation, competition entry fees and other expenses.
It is also inviting local businesses to sponsor the young fighter as he prepares to represent Wokingham and Great Britain on the international stage.
