STUDENTS at a Reading school are celebrating a decade-topping set of A Level results, with the Class of 2026 achieving the school’s highest proportion of A* grades in eight years.
An impressive 23% of all grades awarded to Queen Anne’s School students were at A*, while an outstanding 48% of grades were awarded at A*-A.
The results represent an exceptional year of academic achievement for the independent girls’ day and boarding school in Caversham.
Students are now preparing to take up places at a range of destinations, including the universities of Oxford, Cambridge, Nottingham and UCL, studying subjects ranging from medicine and music to psychology, law and international relations.
Among those celebrating are two students who have secured places at Oxford and Cambridge.
Esha achieved an exceptional four A* grades in Economics, Further Mathematics, Mathematics and her Extended Project Qualification, and will take up her place at the University of Cambridge to study Land Economy.
Esha said: “I honestly can’t believe it.
“It’s been such a great year at Queen Anne’s, and I’m just so proud and happy.”
Joining her in celebrating Oxbridge success is Eleanor, who achieved A*A*A in English Literature, Music and Mathematics and will go on to study Music at the University of Oxford. Eleanor said: “I was so pleased to see my results this morning, and I’m very excited to be heading to Oxford.”
Mary, who served as one of Queen Anne’s Head Girls this year, achieved A*AA in Physical Education, Business and Psychology and will now head to Durham to study Business Management.
Her results round off a memorable final year, during which she also co-captained the senior lacrosse team.
Mary said: “Queen Anne’s has supported me throughout my whole time here.
“They’ve helped me through everything and supported me in balancing it all.
“I’m really happy.”
There was also exceptional success in Art, with 100% of students achieving an A*.
Head of Art George Tarrant praised the students, saying: “The work they produced was incredibly personal, drawing on their own lives, families and heritage.
“The art students were tremendously hardworking, listened to advice and really embraced everything on offer, from trips to working with visiting artists.
“Their work was hugely ambitious, not just in scope but in scale.
“They pushed beyond traditional mediums to produce large-scale installations that have taken over spaces within the Art Block.
“Some of these pieces have made such an impact that we’ll be keeping them on display.”
Head of School, Ms Elaine Purves, said: “Today is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate everything our students have achieved.
“Their results are testament not only to their hard work and determination, but to the curiosity, ambition and spirit they have shown throughout their time at Queen Anne’s.
“We are incredibly proud of the young women they have become and of the exciting paths that now lie ahead of them.
