Reading FC grabbed victory late on as they piled the misery on struggling Wigan Athletic with Paudie O’Connor’s 87th minute winner.

A drab first-half between the teams saw them go into the break level with neither side able to forge any clear cut chances.

Reading then scored quickly after the restart through defender Jeriel Dorsett, who netted for the second consecutive game.

Wigan hit back when Joe Taylor pounced from close range, but it was Leam Richardson’s side who stole a winner late in the day when O’Connor powered in a header from Lewis Wing’s delivery.

Reading fans reacted on social media following the win with some noting a disappointing display, but highlighted the importance of getting the three points.

One supporter said: “Hood to win but my god how sh*t was that, we look just as bad as Wigan.”
