Reading FC manager Ruben Selles has admitted that it is ‘unrealistic’ to put any targets on next season before a takeover of the club is completed.
The Royals boss, like everyone associated at the club, is still waiting patiently for a deal to be concluded for Dai Yongge to sell the club.
“I’m not going to put anything on next season, the club is still in a moment of uncertainty so to start talking about promotion where we are with the club is a bit unrealistic,” said Selles.
“Because there is no news and we don’t know what will be next season and the budget we will have.
“We don’t have information about those things so I will not be the one to start talking about things that we probably cannot achieve if we don’t change the club’s situation.
“Nobody deserves another season like we’ve had and right now we are looking at the takeover process, looking at a good breaking point to go into the future and have some calmness.
“The transfer embargo is still there so we’re not going to be able to buy any players. The situation is we need to fix a lot of things before we can talk about big achievements.”
Selles also claimed that he is keen for the takeover process to be finished as quickly as possible so that he can start putting plans into place for the next campaign.
He continued: “If everything goes well we need to continue developing and see how far we can go, more than start to talk about different things.
“There needs to be a moment in the next two months where we sit and talk about the plan for next season.
“We can’t open the door and not know if we’re getting paid or don’t know the conditions we are going to work.
“We need to give a little bit of time for the new owners to come and also need to know the longer it is taking, the less ready we will be for the pre-season and less ready for the season because we don’t have any guidance.”
