WE LOVE a flutter … when it comes from great bands like The Hawkmen.

The Club Velocity/New Mind Promotions team brought them to Reading earlier this month and we were blown away by their brilliant music.

So much so, we had to make them head up our hit parade.

Each week, there are 10 great acts in our playlist, all with a connection to Reading or Wokingham. Tune in for free on Spotify at: bit.ly/rawsoundstoday.

Don’t forget, we’ve got a Facebook group too with some lively banter. Search the social networking site for RaW Sounds Today and join in the fun.

The Hawkmen – What’s The Worst?

Those lovely people behind Club Velocity/New Mind Promotions always put on interesting bands and artists.

Even if the music may not be your usual style, you can be sure that they will be quality artists who are excellent at what they do.

That was certainly the case last week at their Reading Face Bar show featuring The Hawkmen.

I’d not heard of them before but what a brilliant band they are. They have a very unique sound taking elements of the past and bringing it bang up to date in a refreshing joyous way.

I suppose you could describe them as fun rockabilly pop.

Great musicians and I particularly loved the surf style guitar sound. Wonderful.

A band to put a smile on your face that you can’t help move your feet to. Here’s their latest single – http://www.thehawkmen.com/

Sonic Whip – Come On In

This band from The Netherlands was excellent when we saw them during a great night at the Radio Wigwam Awards earlier this year.

They owned the stage with an electrifying performance that had the crowd transfixed.

Here’s their latest single, it’s a brilliant uplifting melodic indie rock track. We can’t wait to see them again in August when they visit the UK to headline the Wokingham Music Club Stage at Wokingham Festival on August Bank Holiday Monday – https://www.sonicwhipband.com/

Tom Webber – Keep Calling

I know we have featured Tom a few times before but when he keeps coming up with quality melodic singles such as this we’ll keep on including him.

It has a great hook that sticks in your brain and shows why he continues to gain plaudits for his releases and live performances – https://www.instagram.com/tomwebbermusic

Lonely Robot – Why Do We Stay?

We went to Reading-based musician and producer John Mitchell’s Songs and Stories show recently and it was a wonderful evening.

This song was one of the highlights of the night and this version was a bonus track on John’s Lonely Robot album The Big Dream, featuring Kim Seviour on vocals – https://johnmitchellhq.com/

Who Ate All The Crayons – Tired

It’s a new single from the band that will be at a Jamma-promoted gig at Brewdog Reading on Friday, May 3, with Bone-Idle (see below). They are also at Wokingham Festival in August – https://www.facebook.com/WhoAteAllTheCrayons

Kyros – Esoterica (Radio Edit)

If you want to hear the awesome full length version of this song, check out the band’s acclaimed album, Mannequin – https://www.kyrosmusic.com/

Bone-Idle – Listen Now

This exciting Reading band is at the Jamma gig on Friday, May 3 (see above). They are also at Wokingham Festival – https://www.instagram.com/bone_idleuk

BarrelHaus – All Aboard

Watch out for this Oxford band’s new album, Azimuth on Friday, May 3. They will be at Are You Listening? Festival on May 11 – https://songwhip.com/barrelhaus

Neil Wighton – Precious Life

An impressive epic new single release from Neil, who also plays guitar with Spriggan Mist – https://www.facebook.com/61555415787435

Grace Pounds – Notice

Grace is at Reading Face Bar on May 2, Are You Listening? on May 11, and Readipop on July 12 – https://www.facebook.com/GracePoundsMusic
