Reading FC are facing strong competition from several clubs, including rivals Oxford United, in the race to sign a reported summer transfer target.
While Reading still remain interested in signing Colchester United’s Kyreece Lisbie, Oxford are understood to have stepped up their interest in the player, with the side said to be advancing in talks ahead of a potential move.
Oxford will play alongside Reading in League One next season having been relegated from the Championship in the 2025/26 campaign.
The Royals have been linked with the player in recent weeks as they prepare for another busy transfer window under owner Rob Couhig. However, Reading could now find it difficult to compete financially and in terms of league status with second-tier clubs showing interest.
Reading attempted to sign the player in the last January transfer window before a move broke down late on transfer deadline day.
Oxford’s involvement will also add an extra edge given the rivalry between the two clubs, with the U’s looking to strengthen in a push to win promotion back to the second tier.
Reading are expected to remain active in the market this summer as they continue rebuilding following the club’s takeover and another season of transition in League One.
