A GIG at The Face Bar in Reading this weekend will see an 80s band entertain.

Snuff, who have been playing since 1986, will perform some of their most famous hits.

They shot to fame when BBC Radio 1 DJ John Peel had them record a session for his show after he saw them perform at the Sir George Robey in Finsbury Park.

Their first album was ‘Snuff Said … well, its full title was actually Snuffsaidbutgorblimeyguvstonemeifhedidn’tthrowawobbler chachachachachachachachachachachayou’regoinghomeinacosmicambience.

In 1989, they released a mini album of covers “Flibbiddydibbidydob, with Dave Redmonds joining the recording on trombone and subsequently live where possible.

They then toured worldwide, including two trips to Japan.

And in 1991, they went on hiatus, resuming three years later, which led to an appearance at Reading Festival.

They’ve been going pretty much every since, holding a 30-year anniversary tour in 2016, and continuing to release new albums.

In 2021 Snuff have been in the studio recording a brand new album with a run of UK dates and a return of Dave Redmonds on Trombone with his daughter Flo Redmonds adding sax and giving the band a three-part brass section sporadically and where possible.

This year, they are about to release a brand new 10-track album ‘Crepuscolo dorato della bruschetta borsetta calzetta cacchetta trombetta lambretta giallo ossido, ooooooh cosi magnifico!’ They may preview some of the tracks when they appear at The Face Bar on Friday, May 17.

Support will come from Predeceased, a hotly tipped band for fans of Quicksand/Fugazi/McClusky, and Prey – raging UK hardcore for the kids.

Doors open at 8pm, and tickets can be purchased from: www.wegottickets.com/clubvelocity
