READING Borough Council is offering the chance to Reading’s cyclists for free bike check-ups this summer.

The Dr Bike team is set to travel around the borough during the summer holidays offering free bike maintenance checks and basic fixes, and giving safety tips.

it comes as part of the council’s continued aim to support and encourage cycling in Reading to promote better health and further reduce air pollution.

The free sessions will see the Avanti Cycling team will be on hand to help tune-up bicycles, undertake free minor repairs, and diagnose more complex issues, with no appointment is necessary.

Cllr John Ennis, Lead Councillor for Climate Strategy and Transport, said: “This is a great opportunity for families to have their bikes checked out to make sure they are fully ready for a summer of cycling.

“The expert Avanti Cycling team will tune-up bicycles, carry out free basic repairs and give general advice about cycling in Reading.

“Dr Bike sessions are very popular in the town centre and these pop-up events in the community will be really convenient for families to drop into with no appointment necessary.”

Dr Bike sessions are taking place at South Reading Leisure Centre on Monday, June 30 from 4:30–6:30pm; then outside Sainsbury’s on Broad Street on Thursday, July 3, from 11am–2pm; followed by Dee Space community centre later that day from 4:30–6:30pm; and Coley Park Community Centre on Friday, July 4 from 4:30–6:30pm.

They’ll also be at Rivermead Leisure Centre on Monday, July 7, from 4:30–6:30pm; and Southcote Community Centre on Thursday, July 10, from 4:30–6:30pm.

Regular sessions also take place outside Sainsbury’s on Broad Street from 11am-2pm on the first Thursday of each month.
