A DOCUMENTARY about what we can expect in the UK because of the nation’s changing climate has already been viewed at more than 3,000 locations around the country.
The People’s Emergency Briefing has been shown at multiple events nationally, and locally in Wokingham Borough, Reading.
Introduced by TV presenter and naturalist Chris Packham, it is based on a conference held in Westminster last November, the National Emergency Briefing (NEB), which gathered experts to discuss the implications of climate and nature breakdown for food security, public health, infrastructure, the economy and national security.
More than 1,200 MPs, peers and leaders from business, culture, faith, sport and the media attended.
Chris Packham said: “I’d encourage people everywhere to attend a screening of The People’s Emergency Briefing.
“It creates exactly the kind of honest local conversation we now urgently need, both about what these changes mean where we live, and about what we can do together to address them.”
The film screenings form part of a growing UK-wide programme of events designed to help ensure that both the public and decision-makers are clearly and honestly informed about the climate and nature crisis – and what it may mean for communities across the country.
Around 80% of citizens are concerned about climate and nature breakdown, say event organisers.
A recent attendee said, ‘I liked that it presented the reality and then offered practical actions.’
Screening events give people a chance to see the 45 minute film, followed by space for local communities to consider what the issues may mean for them in their local area, and how they can support their MP to call for stronger action.
Global warming has contributed to recent melting and collapse of European and Asian glaciers, as well as the UK drought and unprecedented heatwaves.
These events have concerned many citizens, who are coming to screenings to understand more about the reasons for the increasingly extreme weather.
Residents, community leaders and decision-makers, local MPs and councillors are all urged to attend and take part in this important community event.
All screenings can be found on the National Emergency Briefing website screening map, with more events expected to take place as people who see it are inspired to host their own screening.

Sonning Common, on Tuesday, November 3, at 7pm
And in Reading at:
St Michael’s Church, Tilehurst, on Wednesday, September 16 at 7pm
Reading Bike Hub, on Friday, September 18, at 6.30pm
