READING’S Liberal Democrats are gearing up for the local elections on May 2, and say they are fielding a full slate of candidates for all 16 wards as the town needs ‘a fresh start’.
Among those standing for seats on Reading Borough Council, the party is fielding three doctors, two mums, and a retired vicar.
The party will be looking to expand on the three councillors it currently has in Tilehurst, with its group leader, Cllr James Moore, standing for re-election in the ward.
He said: “I’m delighted to have such a strong team of candidates joining me in the local election campaign this year.
“Our candidates are all passionate about our communities here in Reading and are determined to stand up for the liberal values that underpin our town.”
The party has yet to unveil its manifesto, but pledged to do so in the coming days.
Cllr Moore continued: “With a decade of underinvestment and mismanagement by the government, and over three decades of almost-unbroken Labour control here in Reading, it’s time for a change.
“The Conservatives are running out of everyone’s money and patience, and Labour are running out of ideas – Reading needs a fresh start.
“With this great team of candidates, and a clear vision for our town, the Liberal Democrats are determined to fight for the fair deal we all know Reading deserves. If you spend five minutes voting for a Liberal Democrat candidate on May 2, they will spend the next four years fighting hard for you and your community.”
Reading Today will set up ward pages on our website over the coming days, giving details of each candidate standing in the local elections.
