Former Reading FC Women’s manager Kelly Chambers has called for action to be taken after reports surfaced that the future of the women’s side is in doubt.

Reports have claimed that the club may not be able to compete in the Women’s Championship next season due to financial issues.

Cousins (nee Chambers), who was Royals boss for their duration in the Women’s Super League from 2015-2023, departed the club last summer following relegation to the Championship and is now sporting director with Utah Royals.

Referring to rumours that Reading may not be able to play in the Championship next season, Chambers said: “This breaks my heart. A club that has a great history in the women’s game and produced so many amazing players.

“It’s been a tough few years but this is horrific. Something needs to be done! NOW!

“Someone has to stand up for this group! For those at the club… DON’T LET THIS HAPPEN!!!”
