Reading FC star man Harvey Knibbs paid credit to the travelling Royals fans after their away victory at Brunton Park to defeat Carlisle United.

Knibbs took his tally to 10 League One goals for the season by scoring a brace to add to Sam Smith’s opener which helped Reading to a 3-1 success.

“It is incredible for the fans to make the trip, seven hours it took for us to travel up here,” said Knibbs.

“It was unbelievable from them all and the noise they made throughout the match was phenomenal and really helped us through the difficult moments in the match.

“We got sent some videos yesterday and that gave us all the motivation we needed going into the match.

“Three points is exactly what we needed. After a difficult result last week against Shresbwury and the news earlier this week, it was back to back disappointment.

“We knew it would be massive for us to bounce back and we’re buzzing that we got the three points.”

Knibbs expanded on his goals, giving credit to captain Andy Yiadom for creating the first and Femi Azeez for the second.

He continued: “It’s one of those goals where the assist is better than the goal 100%. I’ve got to give credit to Yids (Yiadom), and the lads are calling him Cafu in there after that run. I was just there in the right place to tap it in.

“I’m really happy with the finish for the second. Similar to the first goal, credit to Femi (Azeez) for the assist.

“When I see him on his left foot in that position, I know he’s got the quality to put it in the right areas.

“When he’s sent the ball in I was able to volley it and thankfully it’s gone in at the near post and it was great to score in front of the fans.”

The midfielder also looked ahead to their fixture at home to Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

He said: “It’s been a tough year there’s no hiding from that with what’s been going on off the field.

“We’ve got an unbelievable group of lads in that dressing room and we’ve been able to stick together with the fans behind us from the start. We couldn’t have done it without them.

“We’ve got a great home record this season so we’ll look to add to it and obviously the fans will be looking forward to it with it being a local game against Wycombe. Hopefully we can put together another positive result for the fans.
