Former Reading FC manager Ruben Selles says that he hopes for a ‘powerful project’ for the club and after their big takeover development at the weekend.
The club confirmed on Saturday morning that a deal had been agreed in principle for Rob Couhig to purchase the club from Dai Yongge after almost two years of turmoil for the fans.
Selles was in charge for much of that and had to deal with numerous issues during his time in Berkshire.
Despite that, he led the side with dignity and managed to have the team fighting for a play-off position before he departed to join Championship Hull City in December.
His Hull side secured Championship safety on the final day of the season with a draw at Portsmouth.
Speaking to Dan Geroge from BBC Sport after the Tigers survived relegation, Selles was asked about the big news at his former club.
He said: “I spoke with Rob (Couhig) when I was at the club and I think he wanted to do it last season.
“I will have my eyes on them, hopefully Rob alongside Noel (Hunt) can make a really powerful project together and be back in the Championship in a short period of time.
“Rob was very clear in what he wanted a year ago when we spoke. HOpefully it is the same, the moment I met him he wanted to build a powerful team and give us all the tools to be successful. I hope he can do the same with Noel.
“The news, it means a lot for the fans.
“My time at Reading was very difficult but one of the most amazing periods in the my life with those fans. I think the feeling we created was really powerful.
“They have gone through a lot and hopefully the next period for Reading, they can enjoy football and not worry about anything else.”
