A bar at the centre of an attempted murder in Reading is set to be replaced with a new venue.
The Walkabout in Reading town centre is located in Wiston Terrace, just off Friar Street.
The bar was the scene of an attempted murder, where Krisma Anthony stabbed tourist Tharel Thompson in the head in an unprovoked attack that left him with life‑changing injuries.
This incident occurred on Sunday, February 11, 2024.
Now, a business is hoping to reopen the bar as a new venture called ‘Bar Tokyo’.
There is one other bar of that name in the country, located in Cheltenham.
Its entry on the Visit Cheltenham website states: “At the heart of Bar Tokyo is a simple idea: great evenings happen at the table. There’s no need to queue at the bar or navigate the crowd. Instead, everything is brought to you.”
The website then states that it specialises in cocktails and a selection of Japanese-inspired small plates.
It is not clear whether Bar Tokyo in Reading is linked to this existing venue.
Ahead of a future opening, the company has applied to sell alcohol, food and drink and host entertainment.
These activities would take place from 11am each day, finishing at 3am from Monday to Saturday, and 2am on Sundays.
To do this, Bar Tokyo Ltd requires a premises licence from Reading Borough Council.
A statutory consultation into the application is currently live.
