Olivia Bailey – Labour MP for Reading West and Mid Berkshire – is out of government.
She is no longer a minister in Andy Burnham’s Government, and will return to the back benches.
It is unclear if she jumped or was pushed in the Burnham purge of Sir Kier Starmer’s top team.
From 2020 to 2023, she acted as the senior policy aide to then Labour leader Sir Keir.
In a written statement, Ms Bailey, who was elected to the newly formed Parliamentary seat in 2024, and was rapidly promoted to minister for early years education and also equalities minister, said it had been a ‘priviledge’ to hold office.
She said: “I have often said I had the best job in government.
“There is no more importatn time in our education systme than the earliest years and I have been so proud to play my small part bringing back family support in every community.
“My personal highlight was standing at the dispatch box to finally introduce our trans inclusive legislation to ban conversion practices.”
But she also cited a difficult her in her personal life.
She said: “It had been a tough year for me loving my mum through the last months of her life, and loving my wife through serious illness.
“And writing this as I have just picked up by beloved boys from school, it is hard not to be a little pleased to have more time with my family, and my wonderful constituency.”
