One of the main pubs in Tilehurst could stay open past midnight to serve punters on weekends.
The Water Tower in Park Lane is a pub owned by Greene King, located a stone’s throw away from its eponymous landmark, which can be seen for miles around.
The brewery company has recently submitted a licensing application to keep on serving food and alcohol later at night.
Greene King has applied to serve food and soft drinks from 11pm to 12.30am, and alcohol from 10am until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
Food, drink and alcohol sales currently finish at 11pm each night.
The hours extension has been submitted in a licensing application to Reading Borough Council.
A statutory consultation into the application is currently live.

The application comes as The Water Tower has shifted from a Flaming Grill family restaurant to a Hive tenanted and leased pub.
Both of the aforementioned brands are owned by Greene King.

“We are looking forward to welcoming the community back to enjoy our new offering.”
The Water Tower has since disappeared from the company’s app, which allows customers to order food and drink.
Earlier in the summer, Greene King won planning permission from the council to install two covered pergolas and picket fencing to the side of the building.
Although parking spaces will decrease from 30 to 26, planning officer Gary Miles judged the project complies with the council’s policies.
