Reading FC manager Ruben Selles said that he has not been updated on the club’s outstanding HMRC tax bills, despite reports that it has been paid.
The Royals made it through to the second-round of the cup with a 3-2 victory over their League Two opposition.
Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan, Harvey Knibbs and Lewis Wing were all on target to send the Royals through.
“The FA Cup is always difficult, we have seen teams from high categories falling to teams below,” said Selles.
“We can finish the game earlier but made it complicated at the end.
“We were missing one-on-one situations with our wingers and knew Harvey and Femi could do the job so it was a matter to change the dynamic to be more front footed and aggressive in pressure.”
Despite reports from former Royal Dave Kitson that the outstanding HMRC tax bill has now been paid, the Royals boss was unable to provide an update.
When asked about reports of the bill being paid, Selles said: “No (update). I have been focused in the last 48 hours on the game and I haven’t been communicating on anything after that.”
Selles also commented on Femi Azeez ‘long running goal drought after he missed a couple of chances to break that during the tie.
He continued: “I know he is a bit worried about that (goal drought). We play him because he has a lot of qualities and abilities to be very important.
“He’s very aggressive and front footed on the pressure and covers a lot of big spaces, is good on one-on-one situations, good in transitions and creating chances.
“When a player arrives at this point there is a little bit of stress and the decision making in the last third with the pressure of him to score a goal.
“I really think in the moment that he will put the ball in the net and release that pressure. Hopefully that moment is close to arrive now.”
