Reading FC head of Sports Science Josh Bowen has been banned from the touchline for the next two matches and fined £500 after an FA hearing.
The sports scientist, son of head of football operations Mark Bowen, was in breach of FA rule E3.1 in Reading’s League One fixture with Port Vale on Saturday, January 13, which was abandoned after a pitch invasion by thousands of fans in protest of the club’s ownership.
A statement from the FA reads: “Reading FC’s Head of Sport Science, Josh Bowen, has been banned from the touchline for two matches and fined £500 for a breach of FA Rule E3.1 following their League One fixture against Port Vale FC on Saturday 13 January 2024.
“It was alleged that following the suspension of play, his language was abusive and/or insulting towards a match official, leading to his dismissal.
“It was further alleged that following his dismissal, he acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official.
“An independent Regulatory Commission imposed these sanctions following a hearing.”
