READING ATHLETICS LADIES competed in their first cross season race of the campaign last weekend at Wormwood Scrubs.

The athletes tackled the 3k course in the Southern Cross Country Relay Championships in tough conditions with the rain resulting in muddy conditions.

With three Reading sides competing in the race, the A team got off to an excellent start when Katherine West, who has just returned from the Chicago marathon, took on the first leg with a time of 12.09 in 13th place.

Anna Godfrey flew around the course and gained four places for the team with a time of 11.49.

Sue Francis stepped up to the challenge to complete the A teams race with a time of 12.10 to secure an eighth placed finish.

The B team ran solid races with strong performances from Shirely-Ann Dix in a time of 12.44. Second runner Rebecca Norman ran 13.14 in her first race for the club and the last leg saw Angelique, who finished in 13.30 in her first ever cross country race to seal a 20th placed finish.
