READING FC will be seeking to pick up their first points of the League One visit when they visit Port Vale on Saturday.

Vale are also seeking their first points of the campaign as both teams suffered defeat on the opening day of the season.

While the Royals put in a positive display and were unfortunate to come away with nothing against Peterborough, Port Vale will find it difficult to take any positives from their opening game.

They were thumped 7-0 at Oakwell against last years beaten play-off finalists Barnsley.

Devante Cole netted a hat-trick for the Tykes, while an own goal and goals from Liam Kitching, Jon Russell and Andy Dallas rounded off the rout.

Vale struggled last campaign and narrowly avoided relegation as they finished in 18th position on 49 points, just four points above the drop zone.

They are now under new management after Andy Crosby was appointed as new boss in May who is taking charge of his first club as first-team manager.

Crosby previously had a spell at Reading where he was assistant manager under former boss Nigel Adkins.

Port Vale have been busy throughout the summer with several new additions as well as departures.

13 players have left the club over the summer and the club has recruited 13 new players, all either on free transfers or loan moves as they build their new side for the season.

Reading and Port Vale haven’t met in competitive action for moire than two decades.

Their last meeting was on New Years Day 2002 in Division Two. The Royals came out on top with a 2-0 victory thanks to a Jamie Cureton double.

Reading also won on their last trip to Vale Park in September 2001 with another brace from Cureton to gift them three points.

The Royals have won all four of their last meetings with Vale without conceding and last lost to Saturday’s opponents in March 1998.

Predicted Reading line-up: Bouzanis, Yiadom (c), McIntyre, Holmes, Guinness-Walker, Savage, Hutchinson, Knibbs, Wing, Azeez, Carroll
