READING FC fans will be joined by supporters of Port Vale tomorrow night as they stage their latest protests against club owner Dai Yongge.
In the rearranged fixture, both sets of fans are invited to hold up red cards in the 16th minute to protest Dai Yongge and highlight the wider need for stronger regulation on football owners.
Members of Sell Before We Dai will be handing out red cards to supporters at every entrance of the ground prior to kick-off.
The original fixture between the teams at the SCL in January was abandoned after thousands of Reading fans invaded the pitch in the 16th minute, a protest movement that was met with support from numerous fanbases, including Port Vale.
As a thank you to the Port Vale supporters, Reading fans contributed more than £10,000 in total to help their supporters club’s fundraiser for a new statue for legendary manager John Rudge.
SBWD spokesperson Caroline Parker said: “It’s time to show Dai Yongge the red card, and tell him to leave the pitch by selling the club to someone who will invest wisely and drag us out of the mess he’s created.
“Given the unlikely friendship we’ve formed with Vale fans following the abandonment of the match we want our latest protest to be something that both Reading and Vale fans at the match can get behind while sending a serious message to the owner.”
Mark Porter from Port Vale Supporters Club added: “While we’re competing against each other on the pitch, we’re happy to join with Reading FC fans in the stands to show bad football owners the red card. Football has an ownership problem – and after we had to campaign to get our club back from poor owners not enough has been done to stop that happening again. It’s time that changed.”
