Reading FC Women put three points on the board with their first away win of the campaign in the Southern Region Women’s Premier.

The Royals, now managed by Ed Jackson-Norris who joined the club in the summer to replace Pedro Bruno, have made a strong start to the new season.

Reading kicked off their campaign with a 4-1 win over Badshot Lea before they tasted a 2-1 defeat at Beaconsfield Town in their next match.

However, they got back to winning ways with a thumping 5-0 away win at Manocroft United in the FA Women’s Cup and continued their momentum on Sunday with an away triumph at Southampton.

Reading fell behind in the first-half but managed to level the game on the stroke of half-time through Sarah Thompson.

Substitute Tyra Wilson made a quick impact when her direct free-kick put the Royals ahead just minutes after she had been introduced.

The points were sealed when Natalie Cowell made it 3-1 to the Royals.

Reading manager Ed Jackson-Norris said: “Not the prettiest but a great three points today after finding a different way to win! 3 wins from 4 now, roll on the FA Cup next week.”

Reading host Brentford in the FA Women’s Cup third qualifying round on Sunday (2pm kick-off).
