Former Reading captain Andy Yiadom has joined fellow League One side AFC Wimbledon following his release by the Royals at the end of last season.
The 34-year-old defender has signed for the Dons on a short-term deal until January after eight years at Reading, where he made 250 appearances in all competitions.
Yiadom joined the Royals from Barnsley in 2018 and went on to become club captain in 2022, establishing himself as one of the longest-serving players in the squad.
Reading confirmed in May that Yiadom would leave when his contract expired at the end of June. He made 31 appearances during his final season at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.
The Ghana international now remains in League One with Johnnie Jackson’s Wimbledon, adding experience to a side that secured promotion from League Two in 2025.
The move could set up an immediate reunion with his former club.
Wimbledon host Reading at Plough Lane on Saturday, with the Royals making the trip to south-west London for their first away game of the 2026/27 League One campaign.
Yiadom could potentially make his debut against the club he captained as recently as last season.
The defender has already faced Wimbledon several times during his Reading career, including when the two sides met at Plough Lane in February, when the hosts won 3-2.
Yiadom’s departure brought an end to a lengthy spell in Berkshire. He initially joined Reading on a free transfer from Barnsley and went on to make more than 250 appearances for the club.
Reading began their new League One campaign at home to Luton Town on Saturday and will now face their first away test of the season at Wimbledon.
For Yiadom, it could be an unusual first appearance for his new club – against the side where he spent eight years and wore the captain’s armband.
