The Willink School is celebrating its strongest GCSE results since the pandemic, with more than a third of grades awarded at Grade 7 or above.

The school in Burghfield Common said 36% of all grades were at Grades 7-9, equivalent to the former A and A* grades.

A total of 194 Year 11 students received their results, with 84% achieving Grades 4-9 in both English and maths.

The school said 64% achieved Grades 5-9 in both subjects, while 79% achieved at least Grade 4 in English and maths alongside Grade 4 or above in three other GCSE subjects.

Three in five students achieved Grade 4 or above in English and maths, plus at least Grade 5 in three other subjects.

The school’s Attainment 8 score was 57, compared with a most recently published national average of around 47 for state-funded schools.

The score measures performance across students’ best eight GCSE or equivalent results.

The Willink said 91% of its pupils were entered for the English Baccalaureate, which includes English, maths, science, a language and history or geography.

Three students – Charlie A, Ben C and Thea N – achieved Grade 9 in all 10 of their GCSE awards.

A further group of pupils achieved at least seven GCSE grades between 9 and 7.

Headteacher Nicolle Browning said the school was “delighted” to celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2026.

“Every single one of those grades means so much more than a number on a page: each is recognition of knowledge gained, skills developed, and currency our students now carry with them into whatever comes next,” she said.

She praised students for their commitment and staff and families for their support.

Head of Learning Danny Else said watching students open their results had been a “joyous occasion”.

“We are extremely proud of the extraordinary efforts students have put into their GCSEs over the past few months,” he said.

The school said many of the pupils would continue their education at The Willink Sixth Form in September, alongside students joining from other schools.

Others will move on to colleges, sixth forms and other destinations.

The school also highlighted pupils’ involvement in work experience, careers workshops, volunteering, competitions and Duke of Edinburgh awards alongside their academic studies.
