The new administration of Reading Borough Council has been appointed after three leading Labour councillors lost their seats during the elections.
Councillors needed to appoint new lead councillors for environmental services and community safety, leisure and culture, and corporate services and resources.
This was after the Labour councillors who led these briefs all lost their seats to Green Party candidates at the borough council election.
The appointments of the new lead councillors were made at the annual meeting of the council at Reading Town Hall.
Finn McGoldrick (Labour, Norcot) is now the lead councillor for environmental services & community safety, taking over from former Labour cllr Karen Rowland, who attended the meeting.
She lost her seat to Jacqueline Dominguez, the new Green councillor for Abbey ward.
Jacopo Lanzoni (Labour, Caversham) is now the lead councillor for leisure and culture, which was held by former Labour cllr Adele Barnett-Ward.
She lost her place on the council to David Clarke, the new Green councillor for Thames ward.
Cllr Lanzoni won back his seat in Caversham with 1,438 votes, a majority of 518.
Ruth McEwan (Labour, Church) has become the lead councillor for corporate services and resources, which was held by former Labour councillor Ellie Emberson.
As a boon, she was made the mayoral escort by cllr Paul Gittings (Labour, Coley), who was elected mayor for 2026/27.
She lost her seat to Richard Walkem, the new Green councillor for Coley.
Also, as he was made mayor, cllr Gittings gave up his position as lead councillor for adult social care, which has been taken on by cllr Glenn Dennis (Labour, Kentwood).
Cllr Dennis won back his seat with 1,014 votes, a majority of 239.
