A family from Berkshire are celebrating the new chapter after the arrival of its newest member, marking the fifth generation of women in the family line.

The Hookway family are basking in the joyous occasion of the birth of Delilah, who was born at the Royal Berkshire Hospital on June 25th.

The family explained how Joan Green, born on February 12th 1929, spent her earlier years in Caversham before relocating to Earley after the tragic loss of her younger brother Trevor.

Joan had two children: Susan Hookway, born November 16th 1951 and Philip Green, born September 8th 1954.

Susan had two children of her own: Lee Hookway, born February 14th 1971 and Lisa Hookway, born May 23rd 1976.

Lisa then continued the legacy with two children of her own: Luke Hookway, born February 12th 1995 and Sophie Hookway, born April 13th 1999.

The family now has five generations of women in the family after Luke and his wife Paige Hookway welcomed the birth of their daughter Delilah in June, making her the great-great-granddaughter of Joan Green.

In January 2024, at the age of 94, Joan moved into Abbeyfield Care Home in Winnersh as her dementia progressed and it was no longer safe for her to live on her own.

It was there, surrounded by her family, that a very special occasion took place.

Joan met her great-great-grandaugher, Delilah, for the very first time in a truly exceptional moment for all of the family to remember.

The family explained how Joan’s face lit up with joy upon setting eyes on Delilah. She spoke clearly and sweetly: “Isn’t she small, she’s lovely.”
