Last week, our students who sat their A-level exams this summer received their results. This week, our GCSE students will do the same. I want to take the opportunity to celebrate the efforts all of Reading’s young students and also thank those that made it possible.
Taking any exam can be stressful, but the ones that mark the end of a key stage in your school life are even more crucial. For GCSE students, it can mean the start of the final stage of school education, a fresh start at college or a new apprenticeship. For those collecting A-levels, it signals the beginning of university, an apprenticeship or vocational training course, or entry into the wider world of work.
Whatever you decide to do next, you should be incredibly proud of what you have done to this point. I hope you are proud of the work you put in and are happy with the results you got, but if you want any additional support, we are on hand to offer guidance.
Our Elevate careers service is available to provide advice and guidance on progression into education, training and employment for anyone who requires support.
You can call 0118 937 3766, call, text or WhatsApp 07980 744530 or 07889 148132, or email elevate@reading.gov.uk if you have any questions about your next steps.
We can also offer face-to-face appointments at a range of locations across Reading to discuss your options with one of our careers advisers.
There is no correct path from here, so if your plans have changed, take some time to reflect and speak to someone to understand your options.
I also want to take a moment to thank every family member, friend, carer, teacher or anyone in our education settings. Without you, no student would be collecting their results this summer.
Your dedication and passion inspire our young people to go on succeed. Thank you.
