People in Reading are being invited to try new sports and fitness activities for free as part of a weekend celebrating the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Better Leisure Centres will host the Commonwealth Games-inspired Open Weekend on 18 and 19 July, offering a programme of activities for people of all ages.
The event, organised in partnership with Team England, is open to both members and non-members.
Activities will include gym taster sessions, family fun swims, badminton and pickleball.
Steph Smith, community sports manager for GLL in Reading, said the weekend aimed to encourage more people to get active.
“We’re delighted to be partnering with Team England to celebrate the 2026 Commonwealth Games by giving local people the chance to try something new for free,” she said.
“Whether you’ve always wanted to learn a new sport, get back into exercise or simply enjoy an active day out with family and friends, there’s something for everyone across the weekend.
“We hope as many local residents as possible will come along, have a go and discover what’s available at their local Better leisure centre.”
While all activities are free, organisers said some sessions must be booked in advance because of limited spaces.
The leisure centres are run by charitable social enterprise GLL on behalf of Reading Borough Council under the Better brand.
