HUNDREDS of clowns descended on the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Saturday as Reading fans conducted more protests against owner Dai Yongge.
Having already staged protests including throwing tennis balls onto the pitch, marching through the streets of Reading and a pitch invasion during their contest with Port Vale, the Royals fans protested in a different style at the weekend.
Fans were seen sporting clown masks, wigs and face paint as they depicted Dai Yongge as a clown to protest his mismanagement of the club.
Organised by pressure group Sell Before We Dai, spokesperson Nick Houlton said: “In our eyes Dai Yongge is a clown and he needs to hurry up and sell the club to someone who will invest wisely and drag us out of the mess he’s created.
“We know that not all fans are comfortable with protests that interrupt the game, plus we pride ourselves on being a family friendly club, so we want our latest protest to be something everyone can get behind and have a bit of fun with while also sending a serious message to the owner.”
There are more protests planned for Reading’s next home match which is against Port Vale on Tuesday, February 20.
Both sets of supporters are being asked to hold up red placards to ‘Show Dai the red card’.
A statement from SBWD says: “Don’t worry Vale fans, no pitch invasion this time. We’ll invite both sets of fans to join us as we hold a red card display on the 16th minute.
“We will be giving out cards to all supporters on matchday, it’s a protest Port Vale fans have done before… and the colour red is said to ward off evil spirits in China.”
