Reading FC are set to face a fight on their hands to keep hold of midfielder Charlie Savage this summer with the player attracting attention from Championship teams.
Savage completed a move to Reading in summer 2023 from Manchester United and signed on a four-year deal.
With just one-year left on his current contract, the Royals may see this summer transfer window as the ideal opportunity to cash in on the Welsh international.
He has become an increasingly pivotal figure in the heart of the Royals midfield season upon season and played 43 times in League One throughout the 2025/26 campaign and netted two goals and registered five assists.
Reading now have a decision on their hands whether to receive a transfer fee for the player or potentially risk losing him on a free transfer in 2027.
Plenty of clubs did register their interest in signing Savage during the last January transfer window, including Oxford United, but their advances were rejected.
Lincoln City, who won promotion to the Championship by winning League One, are one club who are showing interest in buying Savage this summer.
Fellow promotion winners Cardiff City, who finished as runners-up, are also reportedly interested in recruiting Savage this summer as they prepare for a return to the Championship.
While Savage did not pursue a move away from Reading last January, it is understood that the player would be interested in exploring his options this summer as he enters the final year of his contract with the Royals at the start of the 2026/27 campaign.
It is also understood that Manchester United have a significant sell-on clause which is believed to be around 50% if Savage is sold by Reading before the expiration of his deal.
The summer transfer window officially opens on June 15th.
