READING Central Library is set to host a talk celebrating Black performers and creatives in British ballet next month.
Organised to mark Black History Month, the talk by dance historian and researcher Dr Sandie Bourne explores the hidden histories of Black dancers, choreographers, and directors in British classical ballet from 1900 through to the mid-20th century.
The presentation draws upon oral history interviews and archival records from the Oxygen Arts project, exploring figures such as Johaar Mosaval and the founding of ballet companies for Black performers.
Tickets cost £3 for library members and £4 for non-members, with advance booking recommended.
