READING FC forward Yakou Meite has been linked with a summer move to Belgian club Standard Liege.

The Ivorian’s contract with the Royals expires this summer which means that he will be available on a free transfer.

According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Standard Liege are looking at the possibility of signing Meite in the summer to strengthen their squad. Liege are currently in 7th position in the Belgian First Division.

Meite has been with Reading since joining from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer in July 2016.

After a one year loan deal in France with Sochaux, Meite has become a regular in the Royals team under various managers and has provided a consistent stream of goals during his six seasons in Berkshire.

The 27-year-old netted 37 goals in 102 Championship matches between 2018-2021 before he suffered a cruciate ligament rupture which kept him out for almost seven months.

Since returning from injury, Meite struggled at the back end of the 2021/22 campaign which became the first season that he didn’t manage to score a league goal since arriving.

In 24 league appearances this season for Paul Ince’s men, Meite has scored three times.

Meite is currently out on the sidelines with injury with the club hoping to have him back for the crucial end chapter to the season to try and secure their Championship status.
