A racing driver from Wokingham has just one race between him and a championship title.
24-year-old Bobby Trundley is autistic, and is a driver for Team BRIT, the world’s only competitive team of all-disabled racing drivers. On Saturday 11th October he competed in round 7 of the Britcar Endurance Championship at Oulton Park Circuit, winning his class and extending his already impressive championship lead.
Bobby is paired up with Asha Silva, who is also autistic, and together, they have dominated their class in recent rounds.
After testing on Friday, Saturday began with qualifying in the morning, with Asha securing a P2 start for the pair. Asha then took the first stint of the race, fighting brilliantly and even going 3-wide with competitors at points! She then handed over to Bobby who pushed on, bringing them home first in class.
The pair also won their class in round 6 at Snetterton, so retain their lead ahead of the championship finale at Brands Hatch on the 8th November.
Bobby was diagnosed with severe autism as a child and found a love of motorsport through karting at age 10. He found it to have a profound impact on the way he manages the challenges of autism, and went on to become a 5 x national karting champion before joining Team BRIT in 2019.
Bobby said: “I can’t quite believe we’ve taken another class win.
“Asha was brilliant yet again, showing how much she’s developed as a driver in a really short space of time. She gave me a great position when I started my stint and I did everything I could do make it through to 1st place. I’m really proud that we did it again, but we couldn’t have done it without the incredible crew we have behind us, who make sure our BMW is in the best possible shape for every race.
“The Brands Hatch finale is a night race which will be so exciting, I can’t wait.”
