READING FC defender Tom Holmes has completed a transfer to Premier League Luton Town in a deal that sees him remain with the Royals on loan until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old joined the Royals academy in 2008 and has been with the club ever since, rising up the ranks to make his first-team debut in 2018.

Holmes joins the top flight side on a cut price deal in a transfer window which could see several important first-team players depart the club.

The transfer was reportedly agreed without the knowledge of manager Ruben Selles or head of football operations Mark Bowen, instead being sanctioned by owner Dai Yongge and CEO Dayong Pang.

Despite making his debut in 2018, his big breakthrough didn’t come until the 2020/21 campaign when he was a mainstay in the starting eleven and made 39 Championship appearances.

A first-team regular since, Holmes made a total of 117 appearances for the club and scored one league goal, a spectacular bicycle kick against Hull City in the 2021/22 season in the Championship.
