READING’S leading homelessness charity has been chosen to take on the role of providing accommodation support for young people experiencing homlessness.
It comes after Reading Borough Council opened a procurement procedure for the provision of places to stay for young people aged 18 to 24 when a new programme begins next month.
It also sought a provider for tailored support for those facing additional challenges, such as helping with skills development, confidence training, and helping with stability.
Launchpad has been chosen to provide the service, after nearly 50 years of work supporting those facing homelessness across the borough.
Now that the charity has been awarded the contract, it will extend further support to young adults at what the charity calls a “crucial point” in their lives, especially for those leaving care and facing barriers to independence.
The charity says it will knit together the provision of safe accommodation, personalised support, and access to opportunities that help people move forward with their lives.
Through its existing services and Work and Life Skills Centre, the charity has extensive experience helping people develop practical skills, improve wellbeing, access employment and training opportunities, and build brighter futures.

The contract comes into effect in October.
