A SCHOOL in West Berkshire has been recognised for commitment to physical education for the second year running.
Theale Green School, Theale, has retained their School Games Platinum Mark Award for the 2023/2024 academic year.
The government-led scheme recognises success in developing sporting opportunities for its pupils, and is facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust.
It is aimed at encouraging schools to engage in the School Games and celebrate keeping young people active.
Nearly 20,000 schools in England are registered with the School Games program, with more than 13 millions competition opportunities extended to pupils and young people since its inception in 2010.
It pledges to tackle inequalities to increase participation of schools from the most underserved communities, ensure physical “literacy,” and solidify youth engagement in sports.
It also helps those taking part to embrace the Spirit of the Games, fostering friendly, respectful, and sustainable engagement in sport.
It sees support from Team GB, Paralympics GB, Sport England, and the Youth Sport Trust.
Director of Sport and PE at Theale Green School Tony Blinco said: “We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of physical activity and school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our events possible.
“We are committed to using the School Games to try to engage those young people who have not previously been active or represented our school and to try to ensure that all our students have a positive experience and want to try out new activities beyond school too in our community.
“We believe in the power of physical activity and school sport as a school and give opportunities to those young people that need it most as either a participant, leader, official or volunteer.”
