Reading Women’s FC host London City Lionesses in a must-win fixture this Sunday at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

Both sides border the relegation zone, so this match will certainly be one to watch. After a recent dip in form, London City’s sights will be set on salvaging their mid-table position.

In the history of the women’s game, these sides have faced only twice. Reading secured an impressive 5-0 win in their first meeting back in 2020. However, both teams left the field with one point in September. Whilst Reading sit in 9th place in the Women’s Championship table, London City are just below in 10th. They are separated by only two points.

London City have faced defeat in their last five fixtures. Scoring only two goals, the Dartford side lost four matches, and only secured a 2-2 draw with Durham before the international break. Recently the club parted ways with head coach, Carolina Morace, leaving the leadership of their club uncertain.

However, the Royals celebrated an unexpected victory against top-of-the-table Sunderland at the start of the month. Super sub, Madison Perry secured the win with a late strike from close range. Reading certainly looked promising as they overcame 10-player Sunderland. With five points in five

games, head coach Liam Gilbert will have his eyes set on all three from this competitive clash for survival.

Academy graduate Madison Perry is proving a force to be reckoned with upfront this season. The youngster’s precise finish secured them an important victory earlier this month, hopefully giving her confidence heading into the weekend.

On the other end of the scale, Skipper Brooke Hendrix must not be underestimated. As one of the most experienced players in the team, the captain is a rock in the backline. London City will certainly have their work cut out trying to travel past her.

The opposition also present promising talents. Top goal scorer, Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah, will be looking to add to her four-goal tally so far for this season.

Her sharp movement and drive to receive the ball will keep the Royals on their toes. Skipper, Lois Joel, is another player to watch. Although she dominates the Lionesses’ defence, she has netted two this season.
