A BERKSHIRE charity is set to host a free talk on Monday, November 27, exploring the role medieval Reading played in the growth of the town.
Reading u3a, a ‘learning co-operative’ which helps those who have retired maintain active and engaging lifestyles, will welcome visitors to Abbey Baptist Church for a talk entitled ‘The Abbey and the Castle: Reading in the Middle Ages or What did Reading Abbey ever do for us?’
Those in attendance will learn about the Ding’s relationship with the Crown and the Church from the Domesday Book to Henry VIII days.
The event will be delivered by local historian Mike Cooper, who has had three books on the history of Reading published and was once a librarian at both the University and Reading Library.
Doors open at 1.30pm, with the open-to-all talk starting at 2pm.
