READING FC paid homage to Richard Witt after he celebrated 20 years of working for the Reading FC Community Trust.
On Saturday’s Championship match at home to Watford, the club celebrated Community Day to showcase the vital work that has been carried out by the Community Trust.
With more than two decades of service to the local community, Richard Witt has been helping to transform the lives of young and vulnerable people in Reading for the better.
“It’s gone so quick,” said Richard when reflecting on his 20-year journey at Reading.
“It’s all about helping young people and today showcasing some of the things we do, it helps give the community a better idea of what it’s like to be part of the football club.
“It’s gone so fast. I’ve enjoyed every minute of it and hopefully there’s many more years to come. All the departments at the community trust can hopefully give children the chance to thrive.”
Having grown up in the local area, Richard may not have fulfilled his childhood dream of becoming a professional footballer, but he has managed to positively impact the lives of many in the community while representing his local football club.
Richard, who is head of Social Inclusion at the Community Trust, met up with Harry (pictured above) for the very first time in person before Saturday’s game, who he has been mentoring online for the last four years.
He continued: “There are areas in Reading that need support. It’s a good time to use football and the power it has to show what it can do. There’s always a big community feel here, it’s a family club. I’ve always been a Reading fan so the club is so important to me being close to home.”
