PROGRESS Theatre is bringing the fictional town of Llareggub to the stage in its latest production.
The company is staging Under Milk Wood, a radio play by celebrated Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, and directed by Ali Carroll.
The play follows the lives of the residents of Llareggub through their dreams, including Mrs. Ogmore-Pritchard, who grapples with the loss of her two dead husbands; the musical Organ Morgan; and Polly Garter, who misses a dead lover.
When everyone awakes again, they realise the impact their own feelings have on the world around them, told by an all-knowing narrator.
The play was first published in the Botteghe Obscure in 1952 before a radio performance was commissioned by the BBC and broadcast in 1954.
It has since been performed on stage multiple times since, as well as been adapted into film in 1971 and to television for its 60th anniversary in 2014.
The Progress production was supported by funding from Reading Seed Fund, run by Reading Borough Council and Creative Lives.
Progress features a number of accessible show dates, including socially distanced performances.
Relaxed performances are adapted to make provisions for families with young children and people with physical or special needs.
Under Milk Wood runs at Progress Theatre, The Mount, from Friday, April 26, to Saturday, May 4.
