AHEAD of Hallowe’en and Bonfire Night, Thames Valley Police has warned it will not tolerate anti-social behaviour.
It says its neighbourhood teams will carry out patrols across the evenings to ensure trick or treaters and those enjoying firework displays do so in a safe and friendly manner.
Officers say people should only knock at houses that have been decorated or where pumpkins are are on display. They should not disturb households where signs are up asking people not to knock on the door or ring a doorbell.
For those who are indoors, Thames Valley Police has some tips for people who feel unsafe.
They include:
- Don’t open the door if you are not unsure who is there. Use your spy-hole/door viewer if you have one or look out of a window and use your door chain if you do decide to open your door.
- Have a contact number of a close relative or good neighbour to hand by your telephone, just in case you need to call them.
- If you are part of a Neighbourhood Watch scheme, let your coordinator know that you will be on your own at Hallowe’en. If you are a coordinator, please identify people in your scheme that may be vulnerable and offer them reassurance.
