READING FC suffered stoppage time heartbreak on Saturday afternoon, conceding in the 93rd minute to lose 2-1 to Exeter City.

The Grecians took a first half lead through Will Aimson after Reading failed to deal with a corner, but Harvey Knibbs restored parity just before the interval with a composed finish.

But with both sides pushing until the last, it was Reece Cole who grabbed the all-important decider, firing home from inside the box.

David Button 7: Made some smart saves in the first half to restrict the deficit to just one goal.

Amadou Mbengue 4: Struggled with the pace of play and picked up a needless yellow card for throwing the ball away after committing a foul. Was taken off at half-time.

Nelson Abbey 7.5: Another assured display from centre-half. Won the vast majority of his duels and worked well alongside Dean.

Ex-Reading FC winger’s next destination revealed

Harlee Dean 7: Might not be as quick as Bindon or Abbey, but used his experience well to make sure he was always in the right position. Effective on offensive set pieces.

Matty Carson 5: Had a tough time of things and got caught in-behind on a number of occasions. Was unlucky to go into the book for what looked like a strong, but fair, challenge.

Charlie Savage 6: Kept things ticking over in the middle of the park, but was a little quiet. Could have got on the scoresheet with a golden first half opening.

Sam Hutchinson 6.5: Assured. Put himself about and was a presence in the middle of the park.

Harvey Knibbs 7: Took his goal nicely. Worked hard and chased down several lost causes, but could have been more effective on the ball.

Femi Azeez 6: Same story as it has been so far this season for Azeez. Deserves credit for getting into all the right positions but couldn’t apply the finishing touch. Did well to set up Reading’s goal.

Caylan Vickers 5: Some decent stuff early on, bringing the ball forward nicely. Faded and was taken off at the break.

Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan 7.5: A really strong performance for the forward, whose performance just missed a goal. Held the ball up well and was involved in a lot of the build up play.

Substitutes:

Andy Yiadom 7: Really bright after coming on. Bombed down the right whenever possible.

Ben Elliott 7.5: Was a driving force in midfield and brought the ball forward well.

Paul Mukairu: N/A

Tom McIntyre 6: Got forward as much as he could down the left.

Basil Tuma: N/A
