Reading FC manager Veljko Paunovic believes that his team showed togetherness after stopping a run of eight consecutive defeats.

Despite a point away from home and a clean sheet, the Royals manager admitted that there is negativity surrounding the club.

“There’s an obvious negativity around the club with the results we’ve had and from the first day we’ve been dealing with difficulties.

Reading FC manager debate: should the club stick with Leam Richardson?

“This year before the season started I was told it was going to be a very hard season and I was needed to help the team and carry the project forward and I was delighted to work knowing that it was going to be hard.

“I stood up to the call and so far I’m doing my best.

“I think the team is coming together and finally, we stopped the long streak of defeats and that’s a positive.”

The Serbian boss commented on the scenes after the match which saw the travelling Reading fans calling for Paunovic to be sacked from his position.

He said: “Of course, we are all frustrated but I have no comments (on the fans protests).

“What we need here is togetherness, unity and support.

“That’s what we provide our team as long as we are here.”

Reading stay one place outside of the relegation zone after the goalless draw.

Paunovic continued: “In difficult conditions we managed the game in the first half we had difficulties to get out of to bring the ball in the final third.

“When we adapted to the conditions, we played some good balls in behind and got in some good positions to score

“In the second half, we had the advantage of the severe wind that was blowing but we rushed to get in the final third and could have linked up more.

“At the end of the game, we had the chance of the match with Lucas Joao with a great opportunity and great play and he was unlucky with the finish when the ball slowed down and it wasn’t as clean as needed.”
